Join us for a two-week course, or take two courses during the whole month of July.

Summer Intensives are 2-week journalism classes in July. These short courses cover the most essential skills for today’s media professional. You will learn exciting journalism tools and techniques from our professors. You will share a memorable learning experience with students from the United States and the world. And you will practice your craft in the real world with real people while getting to know New York City inside and out.

SKILLS

Session 1: July 5 – July 15
Session 2: July 19 – July 29
Today’s journalists need to use the latest technology. They need to tell stories across multiple platforms and to reach diverse audiences. This two-week course in digital journalism will equip you with the most important skills. These include photojournalism, audio production, video storytelling, social media management, crowdsourcing, smartphone reporting, and more. This action-packed course will offer many opportunities for you to use audio/visual equipment and to practice reporting on breaking news.

CRAFT

Session 1: July 5 – July 15

What better way to improve your journalism skills than to report and write about New York, one of the world’s most complex and fascinating cities! During this two-week course, you will explore New York’s diverse neighborhoods, under the guidance of our professors. You will interview officials and other news makers, and write stories on the city’s amazing cultural influences and its vibrant, immigrant-driven economy. By the end of this intensive course you’ll know New York’s people, politics and culture inside and out.

STARTUP

The journalism field is evolving rapidly due to changing technologies and how we use them. This two-week course will let you look into the future of journalism. You will explore the latest in digital media innovation and new business models. You will learn the ways in which journalism organizations are now gathering and distributing information and making money from it. This class will feature many guest speakers from a variety of media organizations.  You will get a first-hand look by visiting forward-thinking newsrooms in New York City.
